How We Treat God’s Messengers Reveals Our Hearts

📨 THEKNGDOM Daily Reflection | Tuesday, August 12th, 2025

Title: Stewards, Not Owners – (2 of 5)

Subtitle: How We Treat God’s Messengers Reveals Our Hearts

Scripture: Matthew 21:35–36

Introduction:

In Saturday’s lesson, we saw how the tenants in Jesus’ parable responded violently to the servants sent by the master. This was more than a shocking plot point — it was a prophetic mirror. Israel’s leaders had a long history of silencing the prophets who called them back to covenant faithfulness. Jesus was confronting that history head-on… and warning us that how we respond to God’s messengers still matters today.

Scripture

“The tenants seized his servants; they beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. Again he sent other servants, more than the first. And they did the same to them.”

Matthew 21:35–36

Observation

The master’s persistence is striking — he sends servant after servant, even though they are mistreated and killed. This reflects God’s patience and relentless pursuit of His people. The tenants’ repeated violence shows a heart condition: rejection of God’s authority. Today, we may not physically attack prophets, but we can still resist or dismiss the truth when it confronts us.

Application

God still sends “messengers” into my life — through Scripture, sermons, godly friends, and even uncomfortable moments that challenge my thinking. My reaction to these is a heart test. Am I open to correction, or do I find ways to avoid it? This week, I can choose to intentionally receive — not resist — the truth God sends my way.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for loving me enough to send truth-tellers into my life. Give me a soft heart that welcomes Your correction. Protect me from pride that would shut my ears to Your voice, and help me act on what You show me. Amen.
